Nursery  Pinnawala  located in Rambuccana,  between today's capital Colombo and the last royal capital of Kandy, on  central hills  Sri Lanka.

It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Wildlife Department. It's 24 acre large  the elephant nursery is also a breeding ground for elephants.

The first elephants were born in 1984. It is the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. Between 1975 and 2012, born here  67 elephants
